He has a wonderful small house full of tile floors and the front door is very close to every room. There is a wonderful walled in yard. I believe he's a very smart dog.

He's a very well adjusted dog too. You can tell he came from a great breeder. Thank you for Rupert. We aren't allowed to really advertise anyone on the forum, so I sent her a private message with the link to Birdwalk. You may be getting a call or an email!!

Tyke is pretty much the hit of this forum - most of the doodles are F1's or F1b's - not many multigens like Tyke - in fact she looks more like the Australian labradoodles - we have a few posting all the way from Melborne. We named her Ava and she is just such a pretty dog with such a friendly, loving, energetic, and outgoing personality. She loves going for walks and playing in the yard (our one day of snow was great fun for her!) and she is already better at playing fetch than my parents’ retriever. She hates baths with a passion, but what dog doesn’t? :-) The vet was really impressed with her. We brought her in just a couple of days after we picked her up from your place, and he commented about what great health she was in and how clean and well cared for she appeared to be. Nelly drives Sisqo crazy sometimes, although they play together a lot. Her favorite toy is whatever he has. She has been great for him. I'm not sure he really knew how to interact with other dogs. We did obedience and agility but the dogs were not allowed to socialize. I wasn't able to do a puppy class with him at the time. Adding to all that, we were attacked by a dog in our neighborhood last January. Consequently, Sisqo really didn't care for other dogs. Nelly has taught him to be a dog again and how to play like a dog! They are good for each other.

Kim

jesse and emma

....... The girls were absolutely hysterical!!! I had the puppies in the x-pen in the living room. It's sitting on top of an old blanket, and there's a large trash bag under that to protect the carpet "just in case". Well, the poor threadbare blanket has been a challenge for the girls. They found one especially weak spot in the fabric and they have bitten it and dug at it for so long that they finally managed to make about a 6" diameter hole in it. Then silly little Emma decided that she could fit thru the hole to see what's under there. She goes under the blanket and starts running around in the x-pen, under the blanket. Jessie sees this big lump zooming all over the place, and she's pouncing on the lump. Emma's having the time of her life. Then she tries to back out of the hole, but that didn't work, so she turned around and literally popped out --- it looked like a little Jack-in-the-Box, she popped up so high. So both girls spent over an hour playing under the blanket. When Jessie first went thru the hole to get under the blanket, she went absolutely crazy, having so much fun running, running, running! At times both girls were under the blanket, sometimes chasing each other, other times bumping into each other. Other times, one would be under the blanket and the other one would be on top, pouncing on the "lump". They just had the best time. And every single time they came back out thru the hole, they popped into the air about a foot, just like they were shot from a cannon. ......

......I never in a million years realized how much play-time and excitement they miss out on when they don't have someone their own age to rough-and-tumble with. It's just not the same if you have a puppy and an older dog. I'm so glad I got 2!
Gloria

Willie

Hi -

Our little black and white Cockapoo, Willie, is about to turn one year old on April 19 and we thought you might like to see how he turned out. (pictures attached above) He is the cutest dog. Everywhere we go people ask us what kind of dog he is and where we got him

You said, when we were asking about how he would fit in with us, that he would be ready to come and take over. Well, you couldn't have been more right. He pretty much is the center of attention most of the time.

Housetraining was very easy and with a little bit of training he soon learned to ring the bell to let us know when he wanted to go out. Using the clicker method, he could sit, down, leave it, stay and wait from very very early on. He was a star at puppy kindergarten.

Of course, he still has a few things to perfect. A new puppy across the street will cause him to look over his shoulder when we call come, hestitate a moment and keep going to meet up with his friend. As a result we no longer let him off the leash much. As soon as it stops snowing around here (April12 and we are having a snowstorm today!!!) we will be working with him outside more with the ultimate goal of improving his ability to ignore temptation.

He loves people so much that he has a hard time sometimes remembering to stay "off" Need some more work on that but the root of the problem is us since we didn't mind the standing up to us and weren't consistent from the beginning. On the other hand, he waits patiently to allow us to go first in and out of he house and has since the beginning.

He goes with us everywhere. He started at a very young age attending grandchildren sporting events. He loves to go in the car and loves loves loves children and other dogs.

We appreciated that you had acclimated him to the crate before we got him and that you sent along a little toy with familiar scents on it when he traveled as well as providing medicine to give him to prevent illness brought on by stress. Our vet was impressed.

When we picked him up at the airport he was calm and relaxed in his crate and the first thing he did when he was let our was to do a little business. We set the alarm that first night thinking that we would need to take him outside often. When it went off, I am sure he thought "What are these crazy people doing?" If we humans just stay out of it, they seem to work it out just fine.

Bonnie

-----Excerpt-----

----- Original Message ----

I had similar concerns when I decided to get a puppy. Katie is 7 years old, and has been an only dog (with cats) for over 3 years. I was afraid that Katie either wouldn't play with the puppy ever, or that she would be too rough. At first, Katie tried to ignore the puppy - hard to do - Andy is very persistent. At first, I supervised them constantly, but it was pretty obvious that she wasn't going to hurt him. The puppy would jump on her, and she would either just turn her head away or get into her chair. Occassionally, she would let Andy know he had gone too far - give a doggy reprimand. Andy would scurry away, shrieking at the top of his lungs!! But I could tell that he wasn't hurt, and a minute later, he would be back for more. During that time, Katie got extra special attention and extra treats, mostly when Andy was in his crate. She also saw me pick Andy up and give him attention, and always got a treat when Andy got one.

After Andy had been around for 5-6 weeks, Katie suddenly started initiating play with him. It was pretty mild at first, but has quickly increased in intensity and duration. Now it can get pretty wild. I suspect that Katie was waiting for him to be less fragile before rough housing, and steps things up as he develops.

A good breeder should be able to help you choose a puppy for your situation. Lucile was aware that I was introducing a puppy to an older dog. I'm sure she would have let me know if the puppy I had chosen was unlikely to adapt to the situation.

Bonnie (2 is highly entertaining)

Katie (I guess we can keep him)

Andy (I knew she liked me)

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....
(* this from a new prospective owner in California - 2100 miles away)

Lucile,
Personal check is on it's way, Priority Mail, this morning.
I thought you'd be happy to know that when I was talking with the pet
trainer at our local Petsmart Store, she asked where we were getting the
puppy from. McCullough. Everywhere we take him people have a fit over how cute, soft and sweet he is. We really count ourselves lucky to have gotten him. He is very quick to learn. We crate trained him, and he's been completely housebroken for at least two weeks. We are in the process of perfecting heeling on a leash at present. He will sit and stay until released with a whistle, even with a bowl of food in front of him. He has also been around our nieces and nephew ranging in age from two to seven and although he is rough to play with my husband and I at times, he was extremely gentle with all three little ones..... I was amazed!

We would to purchase a female pup from you when he is about a year old... he'll be well settled in by then and we'll be able to focus on training the new family member....
We were looking at the end of November to December. I was afraid that the demand would be very high around Christmas time. How soon do we need to put down a deposit or do whatever is necessary to get on you list? (We definitely want another one of your Birdwalk dogs)....

Thanks again for bringing Charley into this world. Sierra has been dubbed the matriach of the household. She very rarely plays, she stands up on the porch and watches the other dogs play and if they get out of hand she will run down, break it up and run back to her post. Even if I take her to gatherings with other dogs she dosen't want them to play to hard. She is a gentle soul. She is also a therapy dog.Lucile, I don't know what type of mom Sierras mother was (Midnight and Sam), but Sierra is the best. She gives birth with no help needed from me at all. She is amazing. Now my Bella, who is from Cody and Monroe, requires C-sections. But as a mother she is tops also. She has even had a false pregnancy and delivery, that was so sad to watch. She is 16 1/2 inches and 25 lbs of pure love. She is always intently looking into my eyes for some type of command or approval. She is fiesty but always wanting to please everyone. All I can say Lucille is Monroe, Cody, Midnight and Sam rock. If you wouldn't mind sharing alittle about their personalities I would love to hear about them. Go on my website and see some of the beauties Bella and Sierra have produced.I hope all is well with all of you.KellySouthern Maine Labradoodles

Charlie (labradoodle)....

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....Charlie just had a check - up at the vet. I will also say that he is lucky to be in a home that has four gentle people to love him because a harsher environment would just crush him. My husband and I joke that the wild beast was bred out of him long ago. Now he is more like a gentle cuddly, loving presence. Right now his coat is long and fluffy. We shave him down 3 times a year. He looks great shaved too, more like a lab shape-except for his long legs. There are now four of your dogs in our Ohio village. Scout reminds me of a cat with her ability to pounce and claw her way up anything - including my hose. Her favorite activity isto pounce into the bathtub - never mind if I'm in there taking a shower -and going over to the faucet for a drink of water. She is absolutely convinced something magical lives down the drain and she likes to check it out at every opportunity. She also loves to play fetch although only one certain ball invokes her desire to rush back to me with the ball in her mouth. No other ball will do. She is all of 7 pounds now and quite convinced she is all grown up.This weekend she learned to go down and up stairs and has discovered the joys of checking out the basement and last night we took our first real walk on a leash. Mostly she just wants to play. She is convinced that she does not have enough toys even though she has 3 toy baskets full -one in the kitchen, one in the living room, and one "resting" to berotated in as she tires of what is currently available. Often her favorite toys are empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, empty pill bottles, and empty water bottles with a small hole and cheerios inside. An apple is fun to play with although she doesn't seem to understand she can eat it too. A baby carrot every day is also well played with and then mostly consumed. She is 95% litter box trained and is getting up just twice a night although she would tell you the last time up around 4:30 is really when she wants to get up to play for the day. She now sleeps in her kennel that is on a table right beside my bed so she can see and smell me. Sleeping even a few feet away in the kennel on the floor did not lend itself to a restful night for either of us She had a great deal to say about it. You were right - she is a talker! She plays with a little 4-year old who lives next door twice a day and they have been having great romps outside (we have been having anunusually mild weather). I've attached a couple of pictures from those playtimes. Just today she learned to sit and we are working on down. Settle is another command she's learning and at times that comes easily when she wants to cuddle. She loves to sit in my lap and chew on one of her many chew toys. It beats my fingers! Finally she is learning not to jump on people when they come in the house although that goes entirely against her nature as does the command for "leave it." Her name fits her perfectly - a little lady from the South who has agreat deal of spirit, determination and a heart as big as the whole outdoors. She has had her first haircut and charmed the groomer. They said she was terribly afraid of the water nozzle although I use one when I bathe her at least once a week. I think she just wanted their attention! Thanks again - most of all for such a great puppy. She is so much fun and so smart!! She has just been such a joy and welcome addition to our family. She is wonderful with her crate. The first 2 nights she woke me up once to go potty and now sleeps through the night. She also uses the crate as a retreat when we leave her at home - which is rare as she is so much fun to be with!

She has become very adept at soccer! She uses her nose and mouth to steer the ball and runs with it up and down the backyard.

By the way, our Vet was very impressed with Millie and with you. He kept saying what a great puppy and was so impressed with you and your informational sheet. The whole office was crazy over her and the Vet spent the whole appointment holding her and talking to her.

Our older dog, Max, stills looks at me as if to say, "I am NOT the nanny here!" ... but she just loves him. She and our cat have begun to play together - our cat is just mesmerized by her. Millie is funny, if our cat is getting too much attention, she know just how to run her off into the basement so that she can resume being the focus of playtime.

She is just wonderful. Thank you so much - we just love her!!

I will send updated photos when she gets a little bigger. I just wanted to update you on my little baby, Spike! Spike and I recently moved to Los Angeles, and he is doing wonderfully! He’s now a whopping 5 pounds 10 ounces! He has the most wonderful personality! He’s very energetic, smart, loving… he’s just the joy of my life. Spike loves playing fetch, and he loves to go for long walks! His energy level is very high, so his weight is still on the lower side, but the doctor’s said it’s perfectly fine (considering his energy level!). Spike loves to run back and forth with his toys, has mastered “sit,” “stay,” “down,” “duck” (he has a duck toy), and “up.” He loves to curl up in bed on weekend afternoons and loves to play with his octopus (each of the arms come off quicker and quicker… he’s on his 4th octopus)! Spike loves people and is always the life of the party. He’s the center of attention whenever he’s in the room… he’s definitely a little spoiled! Spike’s quirky little personality shines! He has a long attention span, and is unbelievably pro- active for a dog! He’s so happy that he skips when he runs! When he first started skipping, I took him to the vet, and asked them to check his paws, hips, knees, everything, and they were all perfectly fine… The doctor simply said that skipping was just Spike’s “thing”!!!! He’s truly the most wonderful dog I could have ever imagined and is the “love of my life” (and that’s probably why I can’t get dates… hahah)… I added two pics to this e-mail! One was after a very bad haircut, the other one was just before the haircut! His fur has grown out again now, and it’s the perfect length… that means he’ll be getting groomed in a month! Thank you so much for Spike. I couldn’t have a more perfect dog!

Sincerely,
Rupa

KOBE

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....Lucile,
Wow! He really is a beautiful pup, I just love his colors. We are all so happy that he is home and safe after that long trip. Peanut is still checking him out. Lots of sniffing going on. Kobe just wants to play but Peanut has decided to take it slow, he is in no hurry to rush into things. Kobe loves his toys and Peanuts! He is doing very well and our vet complimented you on his health and good characteristics. He is active, but easy going and listens well. He gets along very well with Abby, the Bichon, and she is treating him well; they do quite a bit of playing. He is up to 6 1/2 lbs as of this past Monday. I haven't been in touch with you for quite sometime and just thought I would drop you a note about Brutus. He is just as wonderful as the day we picked him up. I never thought we would be as attached to another dog as we were to our Dusty but I was wrong. This dog has stolen my heart like no other! He just turned 3 on September 5. He is just so smart. We are going to try to find someplace for him to take agility(?) training. Lauren, our oldest, moved to Florida this past summer to teach kindergarten and wants to get a puppy now that she is on her own. She has such a large capacity for learning and she is so eager to please! She has successfully completed her Puppy Class and Level 1 Obedience. She has unwavering happiness, she never has a "down" moment. Not sure if this is Nuture or Nature, perhaps a combination of the two. She is about the height of a small lab and weighs in at 32 pounds. She has gone through a few coat changes - from wooly/shedding to soft and fleecy/non-shedding. Her coat is on the thin-side, which I feel is just right for maintenance. You can see in the pictures, she has developed a deep apricot stripe down her back which seems to be spreading down to her legs. I have also noticed a few dark carmel or silver hairs in one patch. I can only imagine what color will show up next!We love her very much. He is not quite 4 months old and he is essentially housebroken. He runs to the door and rings the bells tied to the door to le us know when he needs to go out - amazing. He is great buddies with Spenser, our labradoodle and gets along okay with the elder dog (yorkiepoo) who still is alpha. Chance knows how to sit, lay down, stay, come, and speak on command. He is a great puppy and I have the opportunity to recommend you to a woman at our puppy class who is looking for a breeder for labradoodles. Thanks again for a great pup. I've enclosed a couple of pictures of the Chance and the gang.
Bob Jech

BAILEY

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....
Dear Lucile,I just wanted to give you an update on how our cockapoo, Bailey, is doing. She's got a great personality and we're enjoying her very much. She's already learned her name, sit, come, and down. We're enrolled in puppy classes which have been very helpful. Bailey LOVES people and gets a lot of attention when we go out for walks ("runs" is more like it). She fits in very nicely with our family and has become quite comfortable here in busy, noisy Brooklyn!! She's a healthy 6 1/2 lbs now (nearly 4 months old) and we're looking forward to having a lot of fun at the holidays!!

I've attached some recent pictures so you can see how big she's gotten!!

Kathy & Ed

WALLY

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....Dear Lucille:Hi! We are the very happy owners of Wally Austen-Smith, now five years old and a "son" of BirdwalkFarms. I just had a book group meeting here on Friday, and no one could believe how gentle, calmand friendly Wally is. We know that walking him every day helps a lot, but there's no doubt in ourminds that your breeding expertise is responsible for him being the terrific dog that he is. Heabsolutely loves the snow and bounds around like Tigger over the big piles currently in our yard.He also has an intimate relationship with whatever tennis ball is available, will pay fetch untilthe cows come home, and he is a smart cookie. We have been going to puppy classes for a couple of weeks, and he is a very quick learner. Everywhere I go people stop me and ask what he is and where I got him. One lady took down your website she was so impressed. They all think he looks like a live stuffed animal. I have found his magic word, which is "treat". He will stop everything (thank God) when he hears this word, run to me and sit to get his reward. He sleeps through the night in his crate, and loves the backyard, walks, and the doggy park. He cuddles when he wants to, and loves to give kisses. He has overflowed that empty spot I had inside, Thank You! This is a picture of Milo at 6 months. We received him from you on August 18, 2005. He just finished obedience school and really makes us proud. He is sweet, loving, playful and a joyful addition to our family. He wiggles like nothing we have ever seen - My oldest jokes that he may break himself in half one day greeting a guest. He is the cutie of the neighborhood. My sister in law, who isn’t particularly a huge dog fan, spent a weekend with us. At the end of her trip she commented that she could have a dog if he was just like our little guy.

We have friends who are well respected dog trainers. They have told us that we couldn’t have done any better than Milo. Everywhere we go people go absolutely crazy over him. Even the vet goes wild when she sees him. she always takes him to show him off to the technicians and anybody else who happens to be around - and its quite a large veterinary hospital. For a little guy with short legs, he can sure move like a streak of greased lightning. I have never seen a dog make ninety degree turns before, but I swear he does! Lucky has already proven to be the best thing I've done for myself ( as well as the > kids) in a long time! I can't believe how well he has assimilated into our home. Even Cuddles, my daughter's Chow/Golden Retriever Mix seems to be enjoying her new playmate. I am very proud of Cuddles, she has been very gentle and patient with Lucky and his antics. Jordan has adjusted very well. He takes his new responsibilities very seriously. Lucky has already seemed to learn that Jordan is his "master" and they spend lots of time together. Lucky is even sleeping at night very well in his crate - no whining! - Wonderful!! I can't get over how much he's learned in just 1 day. He can get on and off the couch, up the stairs, knows where his food and water is (although likes to attempt to get Cuddles - but learned very quickly that was a no/no.). We've even had moderate success in the potty area. I am thrilled! How can such a little guy bring so much joy! Thanks again. I'll be sending pics soon to get our webpage up! I was thinking "Wow, the time I have been waiting so long to be hearing is soon going to be happening." Lucile shared this with me about Meka. I have to share this with you ... Lucile said: "gotta tell you about your little freak this morning she is in a crate about eye level to my bed. when I woke up this morn she was the only one in the end of the crate close to me - laying there gently mouthing the wire of the crate and staring at me. when I stared back she got up and walked to the other end of the crate and plopped into the pile of puppies facing away from me - then looked over her shoulder to see if I was still watching her. Then she looked away and looked back out of the corner of her eye again. She's gonna be FUN!" A really good friend of mine said this: "She sounds just like her sister. A mischevous spirit that is just one surprise after another. How many breeders do you know that have their new puppies sleeping beside them? It is no wonder these dogs love people so much. They have just had such a terrific start from the absolute very beginning." I had expressed worry .. and Connie said "Don't worry about Meka being little and leaving her first home. You will be amazed at how resilent these guys are. She will probably bounce right out of her crate and into your arms. They just seem to love life and everything in it." Love ya all, Carol D. of Maine (Webmaster's note - Meka did indeed have her flight to Maine on May 20, and arrived safely with no after effects at all -she is very happily and cozily loving life on the Maine coast.)

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....Excerpt from Judy Hi! He arrived at the San Diego airport yesterday afternoon. From there, we drove straight to Phoenix with a few pit stops for us. He didn't have to go! I held him for the whole trip home. When he wasn't looking out the window, he slept...such a cuddler! We let him stay up a little late, so he could play after his long trip. I cleaned out his airplane carrier and let him sleep in it next to our bed. He whined for about a minute, settled down, and slept thru the night without a peep. We woke him up at 7:30 to let him out. His carrier was clean and dry! He's been playing most of the day. My daughter is nuts about him and he follows her everywhere. We have his crate set up in the family room. He's settling in....he is such a beauty and we are very grateful to you for all the extra care you give the pups. It sure shows!! You breed great dogs. He is beautiful and charming. Kathy and - Dear Mrs.Bailey, Thanks for Coky. He is adorable! He follows me every where I go (almost). My mom will take pictures of Coky and send them to you. I could tell that you took very good care of him. I will take EXTRA good care of him for ever. Since I am going back to school soon, Coky is going to pick me up (with my mom, of course. Dogs can't drive). She is doing just great!! She is now about 7 1/2 months and about 10 lbs. I was happy to see that your estimate of 10-12 lbs was right on the money!!! She has been sleeping outside of her crate for about 1 1/2 months with no accidents from the start. She never had accidents in her crate either. Oh by the way she never had an accident even the first night that I had her. She just insists on going outside, no puppy pads for her! She still spends time in her crate when I have to leave her during the day. She spends a lot of time at my office (everyone just loves her of course) and a lot of time in the car with me. Since I am a Realtor I spend plenty of time in the car! She has a little crate in the car also. Her training has been a breeze! From the day I picked her up at your place in July (she was only 7 1/2 weeks) she would follow me around and if I stopped walking she would automatically sit!!! I decided to take advantage of that from day 1 and every time I would stop walking I would say "sit" at the same time and of course she would sit!!! In a couple days, before I even left my sister and brother-in-law's house in Knoxville to fly back to Denver, Lucky was sitting on command! Imagine the surprise of the obedience trainer, not to mention the rest of the class, when little 2lb Lucky already knew that one when the 8 week class started. Of course everyone was asking where I got her. I told them that I searched the country for her and after one bad experience and about 6 months of searching I found Birdwalk Farms of course! She now knows sit, lay down, come, stay and shake. My 6 and 7 year old niece and nephew live near by and just love her. She chases them all over their yard. She plays with a lot of dog friends too. Most of them weigh 50-80lbs more then her. She has not been afraid of them from the start. I can't thank you enough - she is just a great dog. I never thought that I could be so Lucky to have another dog as good as Allie, my 15 1/2 year old cockapoo that had to be put to sleep in 1999 but I do and her name is Lucky! Sorry for the long e-mail but wanted to let you know how Lucky was doing. Attached is a picture of her from yesterday after being to the groomer. I remember you telling me his litter was born on March 7,2000 so Buster just celebrated his first birthday. In honor of this I wanted to give you an update on his first year. At 12 months he is about 7 lbs so he is little and exactly what we wanted. > He is the best dog around. Everyone who meets him wants one. He is very obedient and has learned many tricks which he can do on command. He loves to run and play but at the same time likes to sit in your lap to be loved. He barks when someone comes to the door like he is this little tough guy, its too funny, but when the person comes in he just wants to be loved by them. He has a great temperment and my kids just love him. I wanted to thank you again so much for this wonderful dog. He is a whopping 3 lb, 13 oz. as of Monday. The vet gave him a clean bill of health. He is a sweet, adorable pup who is coming out of his "shell." ha! I'm thinking it would be nice to put him back IN once in awhile! He keep us busy with his hilarious antics. While "helping" me water flower pots, he discovered that good, cold water is refreshing and now MUST have a drink from the hose EACH time we go out! He lays on his back and has to be dragged in if he doesn't get a drink! :) Overall he is a wonderful, cooperative puppy with a great appetite. We can tell he is a smart dog and is learning quickly. He has always slept through the night without a mess or a squeal. We have even gotten him up to let him potty outside....but he won't wake up, so we just leave him alone now. I am home all day, so I am diligent with taking him outside. He's had a couple of accidents, but I think he's beginning to "get it." He is very patient and nothing seems to bother him. Thank you for working with us to find just the right puppy. I will send you pictures as Buddy grows and becomes a "man!" :) Sincerely, Sue

CASSEY & CASSIDY

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From Lynne and Larry G.: Hi Lucille -- Just got home from Crossville tonight at 8 o'clock PDT.... Had a great visit and saw your beautiful Birdwalk Farm. I was ready to move to Tennessee right on the spot after seeing it! I couldn't have done better on these two little darlings if I had made them myself!! They are perfectly perfect! Larry and I love them to death. They travelled very well. No problems. The first night we stopped at our hotel, they cried for a few minutes. I was so afraid they would wake the neighborhood that I placed the travel crate on the bed beside me and talked to them and let them lick my fingers while we all fell asleep and slept through the night. We are all home now...and want to send a big thank you for making Mommy and Daddy's lives complete. All four of us have bonded now and I think they truly love being with us. Thank you so much for planning the birth of my two "daughters". I thought I would cry when I first saw them. My husband, I noticed, was just as choked up as I was. All the way home he had the rear view mirror turned so he could watch everything they did. I wanted to save the travel crate for sleep, so we fixed up the back seat with a throw rug (for in between potty breaks) and I had piddle pads for them when I thought they needed them. Casey is very predictable, but with Cassidy we had a tougher time, although they both used the pads religiously. One accident in 2700 miles. That's nothing! They're so lovable and so intelligent. They're easy-going and they seem to love affection. I can't begin to tell you how happy you've made Larry and me. Although it may have seemed crazy to pick them up, I am so happy we did. We all seemed to have such an easy time bonding while travelling. I believe they came home with a wonderful start to their new lives.... Thanks So Much. She is so much fun and absolutely loves people, children, babies and other animals...very sociable! So far we have learned to sit, shake, lay down, roll over and ring the bell, but we haven't perfected the art of potty training or teaching her to come on command! :) We'll get those down in the not-so-distant future. Shandy is the "Main Attraction" in our small town. Word of mouth has spread that I have a new puppy, so about every 30 minutes, Monday thru Friday, someone (or some other dog) is coming in to the newspaper where I work to visit the new puppy. She loves it, but I don't get much work done! The bank in town called the other day and wanted me to bring her over so everyone could see her. After I got there they insisted that she do her tricks for them, so in front of about 20+ people she went through her repertoire and performed it to perfection...everyone was so impressed and think she is the cutest thing they have ever seen. In fact, one family is so impressed they would like to have one like her. I told them about you folks and added that I would write you and ask what you might have available either now or in the near future. He is an attorney in town, and on his way to the courthouse, it has been his custom the past five years or so, so cut through the newspaper and give the dogs in here a dog biscuit. He was really fond of my first cockapoo and is also really impressed with Shandy, so I think he is convinced a cockapoo would be good for his family...his wife and daughter feel the same way. Thanks so much for such a great dog...I'll continue to keep you posted. The puppies are just doing great. I can't tell you how delighted and surprised we are with their learning. I'm convinced it's not the dogs who need the training, but the trainer. Once we think it out and figure out a plan, they respond like champs. We were having a problem with them not coming and tugging two and three times on the leash before they'd come. And without a leash, they'd only come now and then. So, we brought out the treats! Now we walk them with no corrections, except when they get to the end of the retractable leash. We call their name, make eye contact, give a tug and they come running, knowing a treat might be there. This has resulted in them walking much closer most of the time. But still they have freedom. And they come verbally without a leash when they're playing (might take a little more time, but they do it). We figure over time we can shorten the leash to move into heel. And they "sit" like nobody's business. Housebreaking is doing very well. Last weekend we took them to the lake for a little swim, and they did great. This weekend to the mountains and some fishing! Misty has become more of a lover, wanting to snuggle, and loving the brush. And Joey's picked up on being a retriever. Now, they need to take turns. Of course, he's a pretty big guy, outweighing her by more than 2 pounds, but they're both growing like crazy. Yesterday on a walk in the neighborhood, a woman stopped her car and asked to pet the puppies (of course, everybody thinks they're delightful). As she played with them, she said we were really lucky. I told Roger and we both agreed, this is not luck. They're great as a result of a lot of hard work, intelligent and caring breeding, and yes, some loving and caring parents. They're a fair amount of work. But they're more than worth it. They're terrific! Thanks for bringing a lot of joy into our lives! He's very sweet and affectionate and has bonded with us well. He sleeps through the night, now, in his crate (well, until around 6 most mornings, anyway) and we have seen terrific success in housebreaking. He seems to be teething now, and likes to sneak in a quick nibble on fingers and toes (he especially likes toes!) when he can. He's doing great on the leash and we're having a grand time playing fetch and Chase Me. (We take turns on who gets to be chased!) We took him to puppy class for 4 sessions where he met other dogs and had play time, and where we learned the basics of leash training and a few other helpful things. Jack constantly had the class in giggles, because he was about 1/3 the size of all the other pups (labs, dobermans, retrievers etc) but was definitely the scrappiest! There was no one in the class who dominated Jack -- he'd stand on his hind legs, batting his front paws in the air with this very scrappy bark, bark, bark, and all the other dogs seemed to know that he was small but quick and tough! He's running up the stairs just fine, and just last week mastered going DOWN, which he does very delicately, and with one back paw at a time. It really is very endearing. Everyone thinks he's just so adorable -- and he really is, with that tail that just doesn't quit, his floppy ears and sweet, sweet face... .. it's very funny to watch him run and jump -- he likes to get a running start and give a giant pounce to get to his toys or people's toes. We just love him and are thrilled to have him in our life. Life has definitely changed for us -- married just going on 2 years, we've been very much foot loose and fancy free and so this has taken some adjusting. But, we watch a whole lot LESS tv, take many more walks in the park, see much more of the mornings (boy do they start early!) and laugh a lot. Pictures at 6 months will follow, as promised! .....Stefanie B.

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From Carol - She (Goldie) is a cutie (of course)! Just had to tell you how happy we are with our new puppy Tucker. He is wonderful! Healthy, happy, smart, sweet, evertyihng we were hoping he would be. he was worth waiting for. Thank you, We will be sure to refer people to you who are looking for a cockapoo. One funny note - we were getting ready to take our chocolate lab Bailey for a walk and put the leash on her. Tucker grabbed the end of her leash in his mouth and proceeded to "walk" her all around the house! It was hilarious - especially the look on Bailey's face. Thanks again, Debbie N.

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From Deb - Hi Lucile, Just wanted to update you on our pup. We love her and so does everyone that sees her. We often get the comment that she is the "cutest dog" thay have ever seen. She looks like she was a stuffed animal that came alive.... kind of like the Pinocchio story for dogs! Every child's wish for their favorite stuffed toy to be alive! We love her, our vet thinks she is a sweetheart and she has stolen everyone's heart (even non-dog lovers). We had her groomed today and she has a beautiful red coat. We love this pup and she is a sweetheart! We feel like it was a blessing in disguise that the original purchaser could not take her. Another prefect match - we shoiuld call you the Birdwalk Matchmaker. Thanks!! Just wanted to let you know how GREAT Buster is doing! I am getting some pictures together to send to you so you can see how much he has grown just in the past 2 weeks. After that, I'll try not to be like a proud new mama and send you pics every two weeks! I will wait at least until he is 6 mos old.... Everyone LOVES this little boy. I walk into the Vet's office, and he is automatically taken out of my hands and loved on, I have had so many people ask if he was real since he looks just like a stuffed animal. He has NOOOO fear of other dogs at the vet. He is especially comfortable around dogs that out weigh him 75 pounds to his 2.5 pounds! He is doing just great around the kids and seems to have taken to his "daddy" awful quickly. He will find an article of clothing (usually sweat pants) that my husband wears, and bury himself in it and sleep. He also sleeps with his little head INSIDE my husband's house shoes. No one else's...just his. And if he whines when going into his cage at night for sleep sleep time, I just stick my husband's yucky house shoe on the outside of the cage against it, and he is fast asleep in seconds! Now if THAT isn't love, I don't know what is! He seems to be picking up on the housetraining very quickly. We have had him for 2 weeks, and I would say 7 out of 10 times, he goes to the back door and whines or licks the door until we let him out! He is also learing to fetch. He is learning about the leash now. Not very fond of it, but that is because he has had two weeks of being a free spirit! I just have a second, but I wanted to update you on our puppy. My kids and I drove up from B'ham, AL about 1 month ago and brought home an 11wk old, black and white cockapoo. My kids named him "Rowdy" on the trip home. (He wasn't very Rowdy then though. He was quiet the entire ride and didn't have an accident the entire 4 hour trip.) He's been to the vet twice for shots and is very healthy. At his last visit he was 7.5lbs. The vet confirmed your estimate of approximately 20lbs. full grown. After 4 weeks here, Rowdy is pretty much housebroken. He is not entirely crated as I teach all day and cannot get home to take him out. While we are at school he stays in a toddler type gated pen in the kitchen with a piddle pad. This past week he has not needed the pad all day! The pen gives him a little room to play and doesn't force him to wet his crate if he can't hold it that long yet. The kids take him out to play in the yard as soon as we get home. He is such a bundle of fun!! (You weren't kidding about toys either. I've never had a dog who played with them so much. It's hilarious to watch him wrestle his stuffed octopus!) As for training, Rowdy is an exceptionally fast learner. At 15 weeks, he already sits on command reliably and comes when called - except when he's chasing our cat... (He thinks it's a game; Abby the Cat finds it annoying.) We don't let him off the leash outside the fence, I don't think he's ready to come reliably with all those distractions yet. Although he's not a 'barker', we are working on the quiet command. That is taking a little longer. He has also mastered 'drop it', 'bring it back', 'go in your house' (the crate), and 'go to the kitchen'. He never required much leash training. Having been around dogs my whole life, I am very impressed with Rowdy's willingness and ability to obey. He has a mischievious streak, but there's not a stubborn bone in his body. I see dog therapy work during summers and holidays in our future. I could not have asked for an easier dog to train! Thank you for your efforts to produce healthy, smart, and personable family dogs. This one is just what we were looking for. I am so glad we were able to bring Rowdy home.

BACHIK

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From Denise: Dear Lucille, Just an update for you on our trip with Bachik to the Nursing Home. We dressed him in a little Santa suit, hat and all, and in we went. We no sooner stepped into the lobby when we were enveloped by a crowd of people, mostly employees, who couldn't get over how cute he was! After visiting for a bit with them we began our journey visiting door to door. The first room in which we were asked into was that of a woman lying in her bed. She said that she absolutely loved dogs and thought Bachik was so cute and sooooooooooooo soft. Well this little doggie snuggled right up to her in her bed and just lied down to be pet! We stayed there for a while and it was onto our next friend. Room after room this little doggie was eager to meet each new person with all the enthusiasm that was within him. What a delight it is to our hearts for us to be able to share with others the love that this little Cockapoo is so ready to give!
Thanks again, Denise

LUCY B

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From Herman and Nancy: Hi Lucille. We have so enjoyed our Lucy that came to us via the airlines, last May.She has turned out to be the most enjoyable pup we have ever owned. She trained so easy for us ,did very well with her obedience and cage training. And she has fit into our lifestyle wonderfully.Even took her on a 3000 mile trip in car when she was 4 months old.She never gets into things and is a calm natured little dog.We take her to the doggie park and she just has a ball with 20 or more little friends. What a pleasure she is for us.and thank you for making this possible. Hi Lucile, I thought I would finally contact you and tell you how wonderful our little Cooper is! He is absolutely beautiful...honestly the most beautiful pup I have ever seen. He now weighs a whopping 13 pounds at 13 weeks! His paws are enormous and clumsy, and he is just precious. While he is still not allowed out in the street because of the many viruses lingering there, he has learned to walk on a leash and he will sit, come when you call him, stay, and he jumps up and gives you five when you ask him. So I just put newspapers in the box. This morning she woke m up about 3am to go potty (susually does once a night still). By the time I got downstairs she had already finished doing "both" in her litter box! She's learned how to "sit" on command. We're amazed at how much they are alike even though they are from different litters. Shandy is taller, lnger and thinnner, and Chrissy is stockier but not a whole lot shorter. Shandy weighs 19-21 poiunds, depedning on the day. I think the Cikaneks said that Chrissy is about 21-22 pounds. The two absolutely love each other. We hope to get together with Goldie (V from Plainville) but we haven't been able to do so just yet. I hear that she is doing great and is about the size of Shandy also. Shandy continues to adore people and animals. She met her first "pet bunny" at the Easter egg hunt the other day, and was in heaven. She was very good with the bunny (who was also on a leash) and just enjoyed sniffing her out... the bunny was veyr nonchalant! Yes, I get compliments everyday from our customers who come in... some even just come in to see her! Problem is, she thinks everyone who comes in, is coming to see her! She is definitelly spoiled! Anyway, I just thougt that you would like an update.... I can't believe she will be a year old in April. It's gone so fast. I am hoping for many more with her. Thanks again for such a fine dog.

SUNNY

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From Larry..... Hi Lucille, Thought I'd give you a brief update. Hope that you are well. Sunny is doing great, and my dog owner friends tell me that Sunny might just be the perfect dog. She is sweet, playful, just baout house trained, doesn't cry or whimper. The kids love her and are good with her. She's greowing very fast, now about 17 pounds - was only 7.7 pounds when we got her. She is playful and smart - loves to play with kids and other dogs. So far she's just great. Thanks for your help. People stop and ask us about Sunny and where we got her. He is so much fun, and loving. He talks to us, I swear! It isn't that annoying barking I was afraid of, he has a little voice! He doesn't bark unless he has something to say, and then it's more growl and grunts, it is the cutest thing you have ever heard. He is doing so much better about potty, I think he is better than our older dog. And he goes right in his crate on my son's bed every night and doesn't make a peep. I love our shih-tzu, but I have to say I wish I would have known about cockapoos a few years ago. Don't tell Harvey (our shih-tzu) I said that, but he loves Rex about as much as we do. I didn't believe I could spoil two dogs, but here I am. I'm not sure Rex can be spoiled though, although he loves us to pieces, he is more than happy to go do his own thing in the corner playing with his toys. Now the dog's toy box is as big as my son's. Well, just wanted to let you know how happy we are with Rex, if you ever need a reference for anyone, just let me know.

SHYANN

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From Michelle - Shyann is a great dog. I told him that his mom was CERF registered and OFA certified, and his dad. He was so impressed. And everyone fell in love with him at the vet office, even though he was asleep most of the time, since it was the day after he flew in. His personality is really coming out. What a little stinker! He is a real wild child, and my son loves it. Our other dog on the other hand, not so much. He is still a little shy of Rex, even though Rex chases him all through the house ready to play. He is chewing everything he can get his paws on. But we have so many doggie toys all over that he usually gets his paws on something that is okay to chew. He is sleeping through the night pretty much. Every other night or so he will wake up once to go potty, but that is about it. We are working on the housebreaking, slowly but surely. Well, just wanted to give you an update, and thank you so much for this little spitfire! .... He has a great personality and is so cute. He is also very very smart. When he he wants something he will take your hand with his paw and will put it near what he wants. He will also, take the leash when he wants to go outside. He goes in the cage when we find out he's done something wrong by himself. Buddy spends most of his day looking out the dining room window. All the neighbors know him and love him and when he gets off the leash during a walk he goes directly home and waits for us on the patio. He gets along great with almost every dog in the neighborhood exept for the ones he doesn't know yet of course, and his cousin Big Old Max. Lucille, can you please answer this one question for me? How does he always seem to know what I'm thinking? .....

JACK

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From the Borsaris: We are totally and completely obesessed with our guy. You had told us that he'd be about 25 pounds and you were right on the mark. He's feisty, happygolucky and really lovely. Sidles right up tou, puts his forehead on your knee and hangs his head upside down for you to pet his neck and ears. Frankly, he's not the least bit picky as long as you've got your hands on him - he's happy!. He seems to shoose me for the cuddling (loves to haul himsel onto my lap or just collapse onot it irf sitting on the floor) and my husband for the rough housing and tennis ball chasing. Loves chasing tennis balls! Loves running around the house like a total lunatic, squeaking his toys over and over and over and over. Needless to say, late at night and early morning the squeaky toys are hidden away! Jack is such a good little friend - as I write this he is lying on the floor at my feet, and as I got up a moment ago to answer the phone he wokr up and followed me into the kitchen. We're still not used to him following us around everywhere but we certainly don't it one bit. He never lets us too far out os his sight, and he stays pretty close even when off-lead. He seems to enjoy learning and has mastered five obedience training classes along with entry-level agility. He obeys hand signals, stays for long periods of teim, like in a "down" during all of Easter dinner at my inlaws house - and is tremendous with children. Our 13 month old niece was playing with him and he was very gentle with her and kept an eye on her as she crawled around. Everyone loves Jack without exception - the entire staff at the obedience school, doggie day care, vet, groomers - all have told us what a great dog they think he is. A definite favorite! Once we were at the cet's offcie and the doc was in the middle of a sentence, explaining something to me when he looked down and Jakc and exclaimed "you are the CUTEST thing!" - and then continued where he left off.... Of course, we think the same thing but it never fails to fill ou hearts when someone else says it. Jack is a very very special dog. Thank you for allowing him to come into our lives. We are better for it. .....Stephanie and Michael Borsari

BAILEY

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From the Gilroys: Hi - the puppy is well, 7.5 pounds at his last vet visit. He is so great, we took him to puppy training class this last weekend and we were floored. It was like he had been through it all before. He got everything right away, better than the whole class. It was the same trainer we went with for Harvey (our older dog). What a difference, our harvey is sweet as pie but not exactly and obidience champion. Rex doesn't even seem to konw he has a leash on him, he walks right by your side everywhere we go. He ahs gotten sit, down, give, leave it, take it nice, and wait in just the past four days. Can you believe it? Well of course you can, that is why you breed these little guys. Sweet and smart - could there be a better dog? Rex is sleeping with my son every night, but he loves the whole family. He is so great and I didn't think it was possible but he is getting more cute every day.....Amy W.

COOPER

Birdwalk Farm Owners Say....From the Smethhursts: Hey Lucile, Cooper is the best dog in the whole world. Evidently the plane ride did not affect her at all. She was ready to play the minute I opened the cage. She rode in my lap all the way home. We got her home and fed her and had to give her a bath (she had an accident in her carrier). We dried her off and she was ready to go again. She is asleep in my 10 year old son's lap right now. Thank you so much for everything.....
